The Dresser
We caught a play, The Dresser today. It's the first play I've ever watched and being the swaku me I'm amazed at the props and the setting; they're real. "What do you expect, imagination?" Dad says, when I told him. Perhaps I really have the need to wake up and see the world.
And I guess Dunman High (Or is it Singaporeans?) really have the need to learn about social/theatre etiquette. I mean, there was this girl behind us who was loud and saying, "He's (Norman) gay. Look at that expression, it's so gay!" for a lot a lot of times. And when the actor was lying down (dead) under a blanket, she said: "If you look under the blanket you can see him breathing!" Yes, darling. He is breathing. You can't possibly expect him to be really dead can you? You could refer to Melissa's blog for more details. And then during interval they were extremely loud.
"I want to sit with XXX!"
"Ask them to siam leh."
"You don't ask them to move I don't give you sweet."
All of us in front of them were extremely irritated. And halfway through this silent scene, when the emotions are there and all, Wang Lee Hom materialized in the phones of someone. Twice, and loud. It was embarrasing.
But less about that, and more on the play, Adrian Pang is really really a talented actor. So are the rest of the cast. Though I got a little uncomfortable with the scene with Irene and Sir. I was thinking if they were really going to do a sex scene, but no, no saucy scenes. Whew. It's amazing how they could go through the entire routine over and over again during practises, and over and over again in the theatre, and time and again bringing the emotions as they should. Oh, for the love of acting, theatre, not to mention the God given gift of acting. The guy playing Sir scares me, he's really loud and bawling.
You could read reviews on the net. It was a movie which was shown in 1983. And it was nominated for 5 oscars.
And I don't understand why my parents don't like me to sleep on the sofa. I am sleeping comfortably there and they just have to rouse me and get me to sleep in my room. I ask and they say they want me to sleep comfortably, but I think the sofa's comfortable. I couldn't sleep after I went into the room. So here I am.
