The Pianist

The Pianist

I just watched The Pianist. It was so, heart-rending and thought provoking. The German soldier, kind and religious actually saved Szpliman, in the name of God.

"Don't thank me, thank God. He wants us all to live"

And the pianist. He went through so much, yet hung onto his passion day after day. His will to live was so strong nothing could put him down.

What if I was him? What if I had been caught in a war, would I still be able to hang on, to survive the odds? Would I be able to emerge alive and victorious, or play a tune to my own death?

Stop the hate everyone. Life is everything we have. And to kill or hate someone just because of his race or religion is just not worth it.

If you poision us, do we not die? If you prick us, do we not bleed?

We cling on to materialistic wants, we cling onto the past, onto many things unimportant. And so do I. But when I finished watching the film, I realize there are many things too precious to us that we overlook, that we forget. I was shocked to read (at the end of the film) that Wladyslaw Szpilman died only 6 years ago. Isn't it miracle that he can survive it all, and still continue playing the piano, and continue with his passion?

We all give up so easily on minor things. But the most important things is to never give up on faith, on hope, on ourselves.

If you tickle me, do I not laugh? And if you wrong us, shall we not revenge?

Open your eyes, look at what has war done.

Open your heart, and see what is truly important.
